Song: ‘I Can Show You’ – Tim & Jean
The weekend is almost here at last and I want to start it off with something fun! Last autumn I spent 8 weeks in the Middle East, 6 of those weeks traveling across Israel and Palestine whilst working for Abraham Hostel in Jerusalem. My time spent here made up for some of the best weeks and memories of my life. I am so lucky to have had this opportunity to join Abraham Hostel and go on all of their tours. I saw so many unbelievably historical locations and some of the most religiously worshiped monuments known to the world.
So, of course, I had to make a video about it. The only problem was that I came to a bit of a standstill with my GoPro filming whilst in Israel. I lost motivation to film due to some competitive behaviour from other GoPro enthusiasts I was living with. I’m fairly new and inexperienced in this area and didn’t want to show my videos at the time to feel as if something I considered as really fun, was only going to be judged and laughed at.
Then I realised, why the hell should I care what others think of my videos. I don’t create them to become Youtube famous, I create them for myself and my family to see the crazy things I get up to while out on my lonesome in the big bad world. By no means do I act to copy anyone, which is why I chose to stop filming for a while as it was insinuated I did. People need to realise we may just have been to the same place and enjoyed the same sights.
So basically, here it is. It’s not much, but for the small parts that I did film I had a ball doing so and I really hope you enjoy it. There are so many other places I could have shot footage of, but didn’t and videos I did film that I could have added, but didn’t. Overall I think it’s a pretty good representation of all the amazing experiences I had and you could have too in Israel.
Nothing will compare to walking the empty streets of Jerusalem on Yom Kippur dressed in white out of respect, floating in the Dead Sea at 30 degree temperatures in late October, riding an Arab bedouins camel in the Judaean Desert just because we met him randomly while out 4×4 driving, watching the sunrise up over Masada and spray painting the wall dividing Israel and Palestine in Bethlehem.
I want everyone to view this video with an open heart and mind. Realise that Israel and Palestine are both beautiful in their own right and although there is conflict between them, stop listening to all the propaganda in the news. This country is undeniably beautiful and a place not to be missed in your lifetime!
